AGM concerts

The ‘Mandolinquents’ Sat 4 July 2026 7.30pm at St Mary’s Church, Yatton.

The ‘Mandolinquents’ is an illustrious, witty and virtuosic collective, playing everything from beautiful folk ballads to Carolan, Vivaldi, hot-swing fiddle, tangos and rags… and a comic ditty or two!

Featuring mandolins, mandola, mandocello, mandobass, violin, classical guitar and voices. It is a mix of high-quality musicianship but with some fun commentary and tall tales.  This should be a fun event for the summer and to kick-off the YMS new concert year.

“Top quality musicianship and accompanying humour… a find of true class… highly recommended to anyone seeking a 21st -century example of British wit and skill.” Musician Magazine

“One of those groups that defies pigeonholing… effervescent… exotic… altogether it’s just plain fun”  The Living Tradition

The YMS year (that is, its concert programme year, its financial year, its Membership year, and its Charity Commission reporting year) are all aligned and run from 1 June one year until 31 May the following year.

The Society holds at least 8 concerts per YMS year.  The first concert of the year is held on the same day at the AGM, which is usually the first Saturday of July.   This is done for a number of reasons:

  • To kick off the new YMS concert year/season after the last year’s finances have been completed and approved.
  • To encourage existing and new members to attend a summer concert, and to also renew their membership for the new concert year.
  • For this one concert of the year the cost of Annual Membership is reduced.
  • To encourage AGM attendance.
